QoL was strongly correlated with fatigue, anxiety, and depression. CONCLUSION The EORTC QLQ-C30 is a suitable instrument for measuring QoL in Ethiopia. The detriments in QoL in the Ethiopian patients indicate specific cancer care needs for the patients in a developing country.BACKGROUND The use of complementary and alternative medicines (CAM) has been reported to be frequent and increasing in the general population and among cancer survivors. Very few studies have investigated the use of CAM among long-term endometrial cancer survivors. To address this gap in evidence, this qualitative study aimed to understand the use of CAM and factors motivating the use among long-term survivors of endometrial cancer. METHODS Semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted with 17 women diagnosed with endometrial cancer 7-10 years previously, to understand their CAM use and its impact on their wellbeing. Thematic analysis was performed by two researchers to extract the most relevant quotes related to CAM products, practices, and practitioners. RESULTS All 17 women interviewed used some type of CAM practices, practitioners, or products, specifically 94% concentrated on their diet, 88% focused on their exercise, 59% used a CAM product, 53% visited a CAM practitioner, and 18% used a CAM psychological approach. The main motivators for CAM use included to reduce physical and psychological symptoms, and to stop or reduce medications. Women reported a lack of lifestyle advice from their traditional medical healthcare team which they therefore tried to obtain from other sources. CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggest CAM practices, practitioners, or products form an important part of women's healthcare options and are commonly used by long-term endometrial cancer survivors. Our data can be of importance to health care professionals and hospitals, as it reflects an unfulfilled need among cancer survivors that does not currently appear to be met by their traditional healthcare team.Mitochondrial genomes are valuable for making inferences regarding population genetics, phylogenetics and recently in understanding adaptive variation in OXPHOS genes. Ribbon fish, Trichiurus lepturus is distributed in the Indian Ocean and contributes to a major share of pelagic fish landings. Considering the importance, we characterized the complete mitogenome of large head hairtail T. lepturus from Indian waters by PCR amplification and sequencing. The entire mitogenome is 16,840 bp in length, with 13 protein coding genes, 2 subunit ribosomal RNA genes, and 1 control region similar to other vertebrates. Genome contains only 21 tRNAs (tRNAPro is absent) as against 22 tRNAs reported in other vertebrates. The putative origin of L-strand replication (OL) was located in a cluster of five tRNA genes (WANCY region) and may not be functional due to the variation of conserved motif (5'-GCCGG-3') and loop. These two unusual features are common for Trichiurus mitogenomes. Phylogenetic analysis supported the monophyly of Trichiuridae. This study will provide information for further studies on taxonomy, phylogeny and patterns of adaptive evolution in the mitogenome of Trichiurus species.BACKGROUND VAPOUR found vertebroplasty (V) more effective than placebo (P) in patients with severe pain and fracture duration less than 6 weeks. Exploratory analysis suggested that benefits were concentrated in the subgroup of patients with fractures???3-week duration. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/chlorin-e6.html This difference may account for the three negative blinded trials that included few patients within this fracture time frame. PURPOSE To assess the safety and efficacy of early vertebroplasty for acute painful vertebral osteoporotic fractures within 3 weeks of fracture onset in the VAPOUR study. METHODS Spearman's rank log coefficients were calculated to reassess the relationship of pain reduction from vertebroplasty and fracture duration in the VAPOUR trial. We more fully report baseline and outcome data in patients with fractures ? 3-week duration. RESULTS There were 46V and 47P patients with fractures???3-week duration. Baseline characteristics were similar. In total, 86 patients (41V, 45P) completed the 14-day questionnaire. The proportion of patients with reduction in pain from severe (NRS???7/10 was an inclusion requirement) to mild (NRS? less then ?4) at 14 days was 21 (51%) V-group and 9 (20%) in the P-group (between-group difference 31 percentage points, 95% CI 12-50; p?=?0.002). Early vertebroplasty provided greater reductions in mean NRS pain and Roland-Morris Disability. CONCLUSION Analysis of this patient subgroup from the VAPOUR trial, in the context of other randomised trial evidence, suggests clinically significant benefits from early vertebroplasty if performed within 3 weeks of fracture. METHODS Whole-spine standing radiographs of 244 patients were analyzed. Sagittal alignment parameters were compared according to the three types of pelvic version anteverted pelvis (AP), neutral pelvis, and retroverted pelvis (RP), grouped per the amount of pelvic tilt (PT) and the ratio of sacral slope to pelvic incidence (PI). Incidence angles of inflection points (IAIPs) were defined as the angle between a line from the center of the femoral heads through the midpoint of the sacral superior endplate and a line perpendicular to each L1, T1 superior endplate, C2 inferior endplate, and the C1 ring, respectively. RESULTS C1 incidence equaled to the geometrical sum from the pelvis to the C1 vertebra; it also equaled the sum of the C1 slope and PT (p? less then ?0.001). Moving from the AP group to the RP group, there were progressive increases in PT, PI, and IAIPs and decreases in LL, and SS/PI (p? less then ?0.001). Negative correlation was observed between the pelvic anteversion and the IAIPs, and a significant positive correlation was observed between the pelvic retroversion and the IAIPs. CONCLUSION IAIPs are novel PI-relevant radiographic parameters reflecting the relationship between the pelvis and the spinal alignment. An anteverted pelvis requires more lumbar lordosis than pelvic incidence and aligns with low IAIPs, and a retroverted pelvis requires less lumbar lordosis than pelvic incidence and aligns with high IAIPs.
